The other building on the corner of Avon and next to 19-21 Shepard has a flat and intact concrete sidewalk. It’s beyond comprehension why the city did not extend the concrete sidewalk to Massachusetts Avenue. Having loose bricks on a bumpy and narrow sidewalk in front of one of the largest apartment buildings on the block does not seem like prudent and safe engineering practice. I have witness many slip and falls on that block due to the uneven and loose bricks.

Another neighbor at 18-20-22 Shephard St. reported the same problem. The brick problem is getting worse along both sides of this block. In order to remove the trip hazard, the bricks should be replaced with concrete as other parts of Shepard Street. Eversource is planning to install a new underground electrical transformer vault on this block soon — so it would be prudent to coordinate with them to avoid digging up the sidewalk twice.
