Description
There has been a rash of jumpers on this bridge in the past few years, and one occurred just yesterday.
The Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge was recently renovated a few years ago.
Why were no fences installed along the edges of the bridge to prevent people from jumping off to commit suicide?
I can't believe nobody thought to have fences installed here!
It's the same thing with the new Highland River Walkway over the Hudson! No fences were installed here either! I am shocked at the lack of forethought on this matter!

Currently there is a trend of suicides that use household chemicals in an enclosed vehicle endangering first responders. Also suicide by cop and driving into oncoming traffic.
Again it is sad an hopefully those close to a person can see the signs and intervene before its too late.

Well, some of my comments may seen callous but I assure you, they really are not meant to be.
My original intent on suggesting that fences be built in order to stop people from jumping was actually because of the tie ups it causes motorists on the bridge, as well as depletes the resources of our already stretched first responders.
However, on a different note, maybe a fence would give the person that split-second to rethink their decision, and also make it so that more suicidal people aren't even tempted by the grotesquely romantic allure of committing this final dramatic act of jumping off a bridge in the first place!
As I stated before, I really don't mean to sound as if I don't care about those who are seeking to commit suicide... On the contrary. I think it is a horrific decision that some people unfortunately make.
But for the rest of us rational, non-suicidal people, I think it's time we start addressing this problem in a sensible way, and stop always wringing our hands about situations like this, and actually DO something about it.
Yes, I agree-- If someone wants to kill themselves, they are going to do it anyway. But at least it won't be in the middle of where thousands of people have to sit waiting to cross a bridge while trying to get home to their own families and loved-ones.
It may sound selfish, but the rest of us living people want to carry on with our lives!
