Something needs to be done about the trash and homeless encapments under the birdges- its been going on for years. The picture taken on Madison btwn 5th and 6th is on a “good” day. Many days on Jackson st and Madison st under the bridge, you simply cannot walk on the sidewalks due to all the rubbish. I retirerate prior reports - needles, broken glass, rotten food - the smell is revolting. I have to walk in the bike paths, and sometimes theres so much trash you have to go briefly on the road itself. Its very dangerous for pedestrians.

I can’t walk on either of those street between Jackson nor Madison St. I tell my family and friends who lives another town, and tell them don’t come to our neighborhood because its not safe. Last time Madison street had a fire. And burn down couple cars in parking lot. Due to homeless camps living there. People who walk from bart station to jack london neighborhood have to walk past under the freeway homeless camps. Trapped.
Challenging the Oakland mayor to enforce local municipal code & clear out the illegal encampments under 880 at Madison, Jackson & Oak St. These are major pedestrians thoroughfares between BART & JLS. Sidewalks are so dirty & disgusting at this point. Mayor should take a walk down Broadway & check out the sea of garbage under the freeway there. But taking illegal campaign funds seems to be the Mayor’s thing now.
