Description

There are two right-hand turn lanes from Backlick Rd onto Franconia Rd. Cars turning right from Backlick Rd onto the 395N/495E on-ramp are supposed to use the right-most lane from my understanding of the lane striping, which is a dashed white line directing the left turn lane onto Franconia Rd and the right turn lane to the on ramp. Because the on ramp splits to two lanes almost immediately (395N and 495E), I see on a regular basis cars from the left lane drive into the right lane to get in the lane for 495E, without looking to check if someone in the right lane is going there first. I've almost been stuck several times and I think this is done to avoid waiting in the longer line in the right lane. I see this happen often enough that I think the intersection should be clarified to indicate which lanes are appropriate for the 395N/495E on ramp. If both lanes can use the on ramp, the striped line should be moved to clarify. If only the right lane can use the on ramp, I would suggest converting the striped line to a solid white line for about 50 feet (until the line reaches the intersection with the lanes on Old Keene Mill Rd).
