I hate to say this but one day there will be a serious accident if something isn't done about the illegal left turns. There are a growing number of young kids that play in that area and when these vehicles make that turn they also accelerate to a high speed to avoid detection. Young kids, speeding cars...this is a recipe for disaster!

I have seen many such occurrences - the illegal turns and the fast speed (above 30 speed limit) makes it very dangerous. Two suggestions:
1. Put a speed breaker where the road ends and turns onto the viaduct or even a stop light (which is more complex)
2. Raise the height of existing speed breakers as cares dont get impacted by existing size and in fact veer towards the curb

I agree that the speed humps do not work to slow down traffic; I wonder if the city engineers who put these in didn't know their job or if they just put them in to humour us.

How about making the exit off of Cambridge swerve much more sharply to the right?

thats a good suggestion David - I think speed bumps will also deter - they are a joke right now and do nothing for the safety on the street. We are dealing with two issues here - speed bumps that arent and the illegal turns -

We should be aware that we may get push back from "Emergency Services" (i.e. the Fire department). However their objection seems to be "we don't like it" not "it will slow us down in a critical way". More lives are at risk from speeding cars then are from fire trucks having to negotiate a tighter turn or bigger bumps.

The Cambridge exit to Bloor used to be a wide curve to the right but then they reconstructed it to be straight. Now illegal left-turning drivers can clearly see if Cambridge is clear to zoom through. I believe I heard the change was to prevent this very thing from happening...baffled at their logic.

So we all agree there is a "problem" with lives at danger (not to mention the classless folks who show their finger when one says wrong way) - what do we do next to get our suggestions considered?

It occurs to me a simple and relatively cheap solution would be to install some pylons (see photo) in the area where people are making the illegal turns.

I ride my bike across the Prince Edward Viaduct all the time. I've not noticed the cars making the left turn onto Cambridge, but I've seen cyclists do it -- cyclists who are riding eastbound in the bike lane on Prince Edward Viaduct, who then cut across all eastbound and westbound lanes to go north on Cambridge. It freaks me out. The bollards that David Creelman highlights could well deter car drivers -- and perhaps the cyclists, too, if the ridge/bump on the pavement looks too difficult to cycle over. (Some infrastructure to help cyclists turn left at Danforth onto Broadview would also help to mitigate this behaviour.) As seekaybee says, time to contact the ward councillors, and also Transportation Services.
