Description

I'm writing to express my concern about pedestrian safety around Laney College. Particularly, I am concerned about the crosswalk at 7th and Fallon. The timing of the traffic signal does not favor pedestrians--it can take over 1 min to get the walk sign after pushing the actuator button. Many pedestrians choose to cross against the light as result. As well, the length of the red light is too short for slower walkers and the disabled to make it across 7th St. before the signal changes. Cars frequently speed along 7th St, frequently running the red light. Cars turning on Fallon from 7th frequently make continuous right turns on red without stopping, or turn when there are pedestrians in the crosswalk. This intersection should be signed for no right on red. Furthermore, there is no crosswalk at 8th st. on Fallon, making it inconvenient (or dangerous) to access the businesses on 8th St.
