  I know this intersection well, it's a hot mess. You have large trucks and cars not coming to a full stop at the stop signs, freeway traffic flying down the off ramp into the cluster of cars. And as I already reported a bevy of very large pot holes to dodge. Someone's going to be seriously hurt if this isn't re-designed and paved properly.

  I agree with the original poster and with Andrew's comments above. It is an extremely dangerous intersection, especially where Brush Street joins the Freeway exit. And the potholes are amongst the worst i have seen anywhere...

  This is a serious concern. Almost one out of three times I see a near accident. Extremely dangerous. Lanes are unclear and the traffic coming off the highway is a threat to both vehicles and pedestrians.

  Thank you all for commenting. This intersection should be re-designed to look like the intersection at 17th and Castro, with one signal for frontage road traffic and a separate signal for the Highway 24 off-ramp traffic. And I agree with everyone else that the pavement is in horrible condition and only adds to the hazard.

  Thank you for your attention to this. Per my previous comment, there should be a divider separating the 24 off ramp and Brush St. all the way to 18th St.
  Then there should be separate traffic signals for Brush Street and off-ramp traffic. This would allow south-bound off-ramp traffic to safely turn right onto 18th St. without having to quickly merge across three lanes of Brush Street. Also, Brush Street drivers trying to make it onto the south-bound highway ramp won't have to merge into speeding traffic leaving the off-ramp.

  The stop sign on Brush at 19th could be eliminated.

  This is exactly how the 24 north-bound 17th St.Exit is set up (see photo).

  Thanks for posting Tim. To the city of Oakland, there's also a lot of very large pot holes making everything all that much worse for drivers trying to avoid them and merge at the same time. Dangerous combination. You also have pedestrians trying to cross through this hot mess.

  And Andrew is right, the pavement is also a disaster in a one-block radius of the 18th and Brush intersection. It's dangerous for drivers, bikes, scooters and pedestrians.
