Description

I am writing to see if you can figure out who in the D.C. government to contact concerning the timing of the traffic lights at 11th and Pennsylvania NW. This intersection is really dangerous for pedestrians who are trying to cross from north to south on the east side of the street (from Central Restaurant to the Old Post Office). Before pedestrians can reach the south side of the street, the traffic lights for 11th St. turn green, allowing cars and buses to turn left onto Pennsylvania. Pedestrians end up either having 2 lanes of cars turning both in front and behind them, refusing to yield to the pedestrian who has the walk light, or getting stranded halfway across the street. Unfortunately the buses are not yielding either (and two people were killed by a bus a few years ago at 9th and Penn). I work in this area and see people almost getting hit on a regular basis. If the light were delayed about 30 seconds, people would be able to cross safely.
