The Engineering Department will be refreshing all current pavement markings along Boyd St, Derwent Way, and Duncan St in the next few weeks. We are also reviewing the feasibility of installing a yellow centerline as well as lines and/or delineators demarcating pedestrian space further east along Duncan St as a short-term measure. This may not be possible everywhere, due to insufficient width, but we are trying to improve the current situation. As well, we are reviewing what signage could be installed that may provide some additional safety. We hope to provide these other measures by November of this year.
The long-term plan is to have a Multi-use Path on the south side of Duncan St that’s separated from traffic for pedestrian and bicycle comfort. This is to be provided in conjunction with the completion of developments fronting Duncan St to the south.
Concerning the intersection of Duncan St and Boyd St, we are planning to signalize the intersection next year, and it would include a left turn bay and a left turn signal onto Duncan St. The future improvements to the intersection will also include a reconfiguration of the pedestrian path, with the goal of linking it up to a planned Multi-use Path on the south side of Duncan St.
