Description

I am from Dallas, TX, and on Saturday, November 11 I was visiting Detroit. I decided to run with a running group at the run Detroit store in midtown. They had a route that took the group down Cass Avenue. We began running as a group on the street, as it was a large group, but a little ways into the run transition onto the sidewalk. When that transition occurred, the runner in front of me tripped on a giant metal object, but caught his footing, I on the other hand, did not and fell into an unfinished sidewalk on the other side of the giant metal structure in the middle of the sidewalk that was not marked with any sort of warning at all. Luckily my injuries were not significant (cuts and bruises) but those things in the ground are very dangerous, and I am not sure why they are not covered by a barrel or marked. After I fell, I noticed that some were haphazardly marked with a cone, which didn’t cover or protect the structure. Since I was traveling I wasn’t able to report this sooner, but I hope the city has since put protective barriers up or marked these structures on Cass Avenue.
