Roundabouts are truly limited being able to to handle a single leg heavy demand, which overwhelms all other legs of the roundabout, who must yield to the heavy volume use (and abuse when drivers tag team so closely knowing they got the right of way. It is still a very good option the other 22 hours of a day -much better than a traffic light.
This issue is coming from through drivers avoiding MD 32 construction delays and the eastbound I 70/US 29 backups - all seeking to get the fastest way to work via our scenic narrow back roads.

What Sue said. When the MD 32 widening is complete, commuting habits are going to change and the problem may improve dramatically or perhaps even disappear. It is therefore premature and not prudent to spend one-third to one-half of a million dollars of our limited capital funds now to deconstruct the roundabout and install a signal without knowing what effect the MD 32 widening and planned I-70 Marriottsville-to-29 improvements will have.
I also agree that the roundabout works just fine and better than a signal the rest of the time. It is also safer. Don't use a sledgehammer to crack a nut.
Finally, the problem only manifests for a very limited amount of time in the grand scheme of things. Don't drive through there for the 30-45 minutes that it's really bad...otherwise you're just contributing to the problem.
