Dear Director of Transportation,

I am writing to you to express my concern about the speed of the traffic (AC transit buses and motorists) driving on MacArthur Blvd, where my family and I live and own a house. The speed limit is 30 mph, but both buses and cars speed (above the 40 mph!) every day at any time of the day.

AC transit transportation is a public service, which I believe the mission statement is to transport passengers safely. How do they guarantee the safety of the users by violating the speed limit everyday at any time of the day? How do they guarantee the safety of the public by driving their vehicles above the speed limit in residential areas? Some buses fly through as they go up and down the boulevard. This is very concerning and frightening.

In this neighborhood, there is a high school which the entrance is on the boulevard (speed limit is 25 mph). We have motorists and buses exiting the off ramp at full speed (above 45 mph!) in front the high school where students cross the boulevard, at traffic peak times. Again, this is absolutely concerning and frightening.

Our concern is that there is nothing in place to prevent motorists and buses to respect the speed limit, such as speed bumps... Nothing in place to slow down the traffic and guarantee the safety of our students and our kids when crossing the road... Nothing in place to prevent cars and buses coming off the highway ramp at full speed in front the high school and residents. Nothing to prevent speeding! Where are the speed bumps, speed humps, speed cameras, radar equipment, etc.

Can you please communicate if there is a program in development to calm the traffic in our neighborhood. I look forward to your reply,

Best regards,
Thomas
