for years i lived in hamden and have yet to see radar being used. i work in new haven and as big and as busy as the new haven police dept is i see radar all the time. i see hamden police car with the words traffic division on it sitting in parking lots all the time doing nothing.when you call to ask the police dept if they can do some speed enforcement they send you to the traffic division and there is no answer and you leave a message and never get a call back ???

my name is frank and i work the 3pm to 11 pm shift at my job in new haven. i live on gateway off shepard ave so when i get home its about 1130 so the traffic is light. the other night i was driving up shepard ave from dixwell ave on my way home and when i got to the traffic light at shepard and sherman there was a car in back of me so close i could not see the headlights, i was driving about 40 mph up shepard ave and this car passed me near the public works garage on shepard ave, he had to be doing 50 to 55 mph when he passed me and if that was not enough another car coming down shepard ave from eramo terr passed another car and almost hit me head on whats going on in hamden???? hamden needs to step up the traffic enforcement in town. i agree shepard ave is very bad at night .

I lived on the bad curve at the bottom of the hill at Shepard and Appletree for 25 yrs. I have seen so many spin outs and accidents there it became a non event unless someone was killed (yes I've seen that) or seriously injured. Had my lawn and mailbox run over countless times. I complained when I first moved there and was just told "you must be new in town".
Believe it or not...I had a relative who was looking for my house pulled over and warned for going too slow on Shepard.
What you'll need for some radar is a bunch of crashes in a short time span. They do seem to come in spurts.
Good Luck...I don't miss that road at all.

Our entire town is a speedway. Check Whitney Ave north of Town Hall some time. Or in Spring Glen. Or Dixwell Ave south of the high school. It goes on and on! Cars routinely doing 55-65 MPH, no breakdown lane, trees and sidewalks inches from the curb. Our town appears to have two freeways going through the center, Whitney Freeway and Dixwell Freeway. Then you have the connecting "Beltways", the 1 lane freeways. Shepard, Wintergreen, Ridge, State. Disgusted! This will NEVER change because the worst ones are state roards and the town has little, if any, say in how they are controlled.

I live on the border between Hamden and New Haven. I got pulled over for speeding on Whitney ave. (I was doing 15 miles over the speed limit, I was speeding) The police oficer looked at my adress and saw I lived almost where I was stoped. He let me go with a warning. I have nothing but good thing to say about the traffic division. They are out there and doing their jobs just as they should be. Come on folks give them a break, this is a small town and they do the best they can with what they have.

Hamden PD has a lot more to worry about then speeders. Have you seen some of the people shopping in the stores on Dixwell, I go out of my way to avoid that area. There is a lot of other crime going on that is more important than writing a ticket or two.

SPEEDING IS A HUGE ISSUE IN THIS TOWN !!!! I walk with my dogs on the second West Woods and between the speeding and trying to play chicken with you- you feel today could be your last ! Do not tell me to walk on the sidewalk, there is NONE> We have called the town many times and once in a blue moon a speed trap will be up. What will it take my death or my dogs ?????

Anyone have data on the number of tickets issued each year?
