Thank you for reporting! Public Works has an illegal dumping team whose sole job is to respond to illegal dumping reports throughout the City. On average this team removes 1,200 pounds of trash from public property every day. We strive to respond to all reports in a timely fashion. If you see someone dumping illegally please report the incident to the Vallejo Police Department.
The answer to your question Alun, is no. I took pictures of an illegal dump with the vehicle, the license plate and the face of the man dumping garbage in the sidewalk. Upon following up with the city attorney I found nothing has been done or we will be done. Apparently they have decided that the cost for investigating and prosecuting is more than having the ground maintenance crew consistently clean up. Another amusing note, there is a city code that provides you can claim half of the fine as a reward for turning these people in. So the city does have incentives for you to turn these people in, but don't expect anything because they aren't doing anything. Obviously putting a video camera along the railroad tracks where chronic dumping happens is not in their plans either. So Vince is doomed to pick up trash and garbage for the rest of his career in Vallejo.
