It is brain jarring to ride over it. I wonder what shape the support beams are in.

This bridge has been a blight on the otherwise wonderful Neuse River Trail for years. Several times, the city has said they plan to fix it, but nothing has ever happened. I'm hoping that one of these days that they'll eventually fix it.

Hopefully it won't topple down while folks are walking or riding over it. The top looks dried out and weak and I often wonder what the condition of the wood in the water is like.

Early in 2015, a representative of City of Raleigh (Parks & Rec?) stated that the deck on this bridge was scheduled for replacement that year. Here we are over half-way through 2016 without any work completed or any sign that any work is planned. Why would we be told that the work was scheduled if it weren't already in the budget and planned? This is a big disappointment and hit to the city's credibility on this forum.

I've walked this segment several times, and have noted the poor condition of this bridge. I hadn't reported it myself because this ticket was already logged. Having seen repairs in progress on Lake Lynn and several other trails, I don't understand why this has such a low priority.

I guess other areas are a priority, or, the other projects were more urgent. I volunteer on the NRT and know first hand that area gets a lot of pedestrian and cycling traffic so maybe if enough people stress the urgency for repaur they may move on it soon. It will probably have to be closed while they refurbish it though. Just my opinion..

On our last Greenway Volunteer patrol my cane slipped through a gap between boards creating an unexpected motion for me and a potential loss of my cane into the wetlands. This bridge appears to be dangerous to cyclists, joggers, and even walkers. Sue Keehn - Greenway Volunteer

According to an email I received from the greenway folks, they are in the process of getting bids for the repair work on the bridge. They hope to have it fixed by the spring

@DavidB - Yeah! (How do you get emails?) It would be really sweet if they were to replace the decking with a composite decking material like the bridge just a bit to the south of it has. I wonder if that's a consideration in the bid? (I find that on things like this, lowest price is rarely the true lowest price...when they have to replace some boards annually and then all the decking in another 10 years.

I contacted my county commissioner, Sig Hutchinson, and the Raleigh Parks Department (just used whatever email I could find on their site). Somehow in all that, my question got routed to someone who could give me some information. I don't know if they're going to use composite decking. Although it last longer, the bridge you're talking about always seems slick to me. That's rarely a good thing!
