Description
Traffic between route 2 and Mass Ave on US3/Rt16 is ridiculous in the afternoon/evenings. Often this is backed up well past 7 pm. Making a right turn on Whittemore Ave illegal has made this even worse. I didn't realize that there were private streets in Cambridge. I was very disappointed yesterday to see a police officer at Whittemore Ave ready to give tickets to anyone who turned right but no officer at the light at Mass Ave to actually address the traffic problem. Traffic is clear in all directions just past this light, suggesting that some better traffic management at the light could solve the problem.

The Traffic, Parking & Transportation Department is reviewing the signal timing and phasing for this intersection based on several resident requests. We will be obtaining traffic counts in the upcoming weeks in order to assess the existing conditions and determine what changes, if any, would be possible to reduce congestion on both Mass Ave and Alewife Brook Parkway.
