it's true, and not just in the mornings, and it's even more fun for us pedestrians; just wait for winter, yippee!

I was just prompted to ask if this was resolved. Unfotunately, it hasn't, and really is worse. To get from my house on Riverside Drive to the light at the VFW Parkway/Spring St intersection, it can take up to TEN MINUTES. Partly due to lights, but a large part due to blocking of intersections, and not letting traffic flow naturally.

amen riverdale lady! every day as I walk this same route I am so grateful that I'm not driving! The light @ Riverside and Bridge St. is sooooooo long, then only lets 3 maybe 4 cars through, when there are often more than a dozen stacked up! That whole 2 block stretch is just a nightmare and much, much worse in winter, especially for pedestrians.

Once that facility gets fully occupied (retail and apartments) I suspect the traffic will be much worse. The sad part is that we (the town) can NOT do a thing about it! During the permitting process (Planning Board) I sited the Master Plan data for traffic flow thru the Needham/Bridge intersection. As I recall the study concluded that about 10,000 cars from Needham St and 11,000 cars from Bridge St go thru that intersection. I believe those number were per week - but not sure. Essentially I was told that the town could NOT deny the owner's right to make a living. We, apparently have no rights!
On the subject of signal (lights) delays. Town has tried, in vain. to solve that problem. Mass Highway controls the timing. Their concern is Providence Hwy - not the traffic flow from Dedham. I have witnessed times when the traffic has been backed up (on Needham St) to the Riverdale School! during evening rush hour

Monday morning, I witnessed a standoff between a driver coming up Bridge Street, and of course, went past the red light and was blocking the intersection, and a car coming down Needham Street and it was their green. The Bridge St car wouldn't let the others go by, so they started honking, then yelling at each other. It keeps getting worse and worse, and I fear when the building is complete..."Gateway to Dedham," indeed. I have tried to be civil about it, but nothing, NOTHING is getting done about it, and it's really getting to the point you can't leave your house in the mornings, early evenings, or weekend afternoons due to the horrid traffic in that area.

I've been pinged again about this issue being closed. Of course, it's not. And now there is the added construction for ...underground pipe work on Needham St. The road's been torn up, so that adds to obstacles leading to the intersection. I don't even know if it's worth keeping open at this point. Disappointing.

I have lived here for 20 yrs, they promised the traffic would not back up on Needham st beyond Charlesbank(the first intersecting street), after the bridge constructions was completed. This has never been the case, it always backs up beyond the school and towards the Church. Needham St and Bridge St are cut throughs and nothing is done to discourage it!!!!

When there is an issue like last night it does back up. Plus the water line work on Pine St brings more traffic. I find on a usual traffic cycle it takes one cycle to get through . In fact if I take Needham St instead of Bridge St in the morning, I cycled faster and I go through the lights at Bridge and then the parkway faster. A new constant backup is on the VFW Parkway. It backs up from Baker St to the high school.

I was born and raised in Riverdale. Have lived in Dedham near 70 years. Whoever ''they'' are ''they'' obviously can not be believed! As I have said before MassDOT (MassHwy) is NOT concerned about traffic thru Dedham ONLY along the Parkway.
Needham Street is, and has always been, a ''cutthru'' for the Boston folks heading out to 128. About the best thing that could happen (for me at any rate) is for the Needhan Street bridge to crumble and fall in to river!

Two years, and this has only gotten WORSE with the addition of the new 7-Eleven building. Needham Street now has a DO NOT BLOCK in the driveway to the building, which people are using to cut off other drivers in the morning. It's ridiculous.
