Thank you for reporting your concern to City of Cambridge via Commonwealth Connect. We have reviewed the information you provided our staff and will be investigating this issue further.
I first reported this issue months ago!! When might we expect this repair to take place? New paving and sidewalks along Huron Avenue were to have been completed last October - if I understand the work plan. We are into another year. And only now I have received a reply, and not a repair. Please inform .
This bike rack was not repairable, it could only be replaced. The wait-list for replacing/new bike rack requests are about a year out but DPW will be able to replace this much sooner. Hopefully in the next couple weeks.
I am re-opening this issue to comment further on this seriously flawed process. I first reported a missing/removed bike parking stand about two years ago (2014!). From the chronology listed above there has been a lot of comment regarding it. None of that comment has resulted in anything happening! Yes, the item has been addressed. The sewer-separation project grinds on. The fact of the matter is that there is but one bike parking stand where there used to be two. And all the official comments listed above are just that - comments. I will leave this issue open for as long as it takes to re-install the bike parking stand in front of the shops on Huron Avenue. Thus far it has been two plus years and counting. Jeanne Cronin, Cambridge MA
Hello Jeanne,
As we spoke on the phone last week, a new temporary bike rack ring was installed earlier this year to address this issue. Given the workings of SeeClickFix, this item did not get assigned to our Sewer Separation Team until two weeks ago. However, the item had already been addressed. While there is an additional hole in the sidewalk in this area, the contractor has decided to not install a second rack, given these sidewalks will be removed next spring. At that point, there will be permanent bike rings installed in this location. I am closing this comment, as the ring was installed. If you have any further questions regarding other aspects of this project, you can connect with me directly. Happy Holidays.
Yes, thank you, we did discuss this absent bike ring/rack. On reflection, given the length of time this issue has been open, and that the site on Huron Avenue is still down one bike ring/rack ( from an all-time high of two bike/rings) I would like to keep this issue open. I understand that it will not be repaired/replaced until next spring/summer,autumn...I would like to leave it open until it is actually and finally repaired/replaced. The sewer separation project has a lot to account for, and not all of it praiseworthy sewer separation work. There are few enough bike rings/racks around town. The length of time and the amount of discussion on this one small project is staggering. Leave this issue opened until it is actually completed. Thank you.
Yes, keep this issue open. After all, it has only been 421 days. Or will this alert system work better if I close it out and post it as a new item? Leave it open.
UPDATE: Now that the sidewalks have been completed along the length of Huron Avenue, the contractor has begun to install bike rings, along with other furnishings, along Huron. Two new bike rings have been ordered for this specific location near 248 Huron Avenue, in front of Formaggio Kitchen, and will be installed per the pre-construction location in the coming weeks. Thank you.
Dear Sewer Separation Project Team, Until these two bike parking rings are actually reinstalled on the location near 248 Huron Avenue, I will keep this issue open. We are going on three+ years for this one - tiny! civic improvement. I notice that the sidewalks have been installed, and that there are markings on the pavement to indicate where the two bike rings are to be installed. BUT, they have not been. And I am not heartened to read that they "have been ordered". In all this time I would have thought those bike stanchions were ready to go. So I will withhold my thanks!, appreciation!, and good job! acknowledgements until the work is done, completed, finished - and in use. Yours, Jeanne Cronin, Cambridge cyclist
