Description

The signal light at this intersection needs to be set so that more preference and time is given to the north and southbound Backlick Rd. rush hour traffic. This light also appears to be on a timer, which is highly obstructive to smooth rush hour traffic flow. Addtionally, I've seen this light change from green to red for Backlick Rd. north and southbound traffic for no apparent reason. This causes frustration, it causes unnecessary traffic congestion, and it also causes unnecessary speeding of cars attempting to get through the 3 lights that are close in proximity to each other on that short stretch of Backlick Rd. On multiple occasions during the very early hours of the morning, I've seen the light on Backlick Rd. turn from green to red despite the absence of cars anywhere near the intersection at either the shopping center parking lot side or the Spring Garden Dr. side of the intersection. It then proceeds to stay red for upwards of 30 seconds to a minute, allowing absolutely no cars to pass through the intersection during that time. I've also seen that light stop all north and southbound traffic to give a car a green light to turn right onto Backlick southbound from Spring Garden Dr. Heavy northbound Backlick Rd. traffic should not be stopped simply because someone on Spring Garden Dr. wants to turn right to head southbound on Backlick at 5 in the morning. Maybe there is a reason why that could be appropriate during another time of the day, but not during the morning rush hour when 90% of traffic at that intersection is heading northbound, and very few cars are heading southbound on Backlick Rd.
