I am not referring to "illegal people," but the seeming acceptance by locals and police of illegal driving.

Ignoring turn signal laws (even left); doing 45 or 50 in the 25 mph zones; wandering into the wrong lane on turns -- these are the norms here. Police included -- it's embarrassing and confusing -- not to mention dangerous! (North Plainfield leads the area in traffic deaths every year). The town could probably benefit in ticket proceeds alone if only they enforced (and obeyed) existing laws on the books. I see Watchung police carefully checking blown out lights and drivers. Why not follow their lead -- does NP not need the extra cash? It is easy to get sloppy and not go for the brass ring, but I know North Plainfielders would rise to the challenge of creating a safer road environment. They need only a bit of leadership in this area.
