Description
Traveling north on Newnan Crossing Bypass I was stopped in the left turn lane planning to enter Ashley Park at the intersection next to Best Buy. There is no dedicated turn signal for that turn lane. When my light turned yellow I began to make a left turn when I realized oncoming traffic was not stopping. I checked and they still had a green light because the southbound lanes have a trailing green (instead of a leading green) for left turns towards BJ's.
I believe this creates a hazardous situation. It is common practice when making a left turn to partially enter an intersection waiting for traffic to clear. When the light changes and traffic stops you are allowed to complete your turn.
In 40 years of driving I have never seen a similar setup. I would like to suggest that the left turn signal for southbound traffic on Newnan Crossing Bypass at this location be programmed to a leading green instead of a trailing green.
Thanks
