This is not acceptable. Although I empathize with the homeless; most of which have significant mental illness, there are numerous agencies available for help. Therefore the tent needs to be removed. Many of the homeless are being displacrd as the conclusion of the river walk project reaches completion. This will not be the first of such street accommodations they will build. If they are for example a verern there is an extensive program available for their relocation to permanent housing.
The tent is gone, but there are sleeping bags there when the "residents" are away begging.
We call Alderman Reilley's office and the police frequently with little response.
I have seen people shooting up drugs and sleeping half naked on the sidewalk.
One person even had the audacity to rope off a section as if to claim the area for himself.
This has got to stop. It makes an otherwise affluent neighborhood look like a slum.
If everyone complains, maybe the city will deal with this.
The tents are gome, but at least 4 people are still sleeping on the sidewalk. Now they are on both sides of the sidewalk and on both sides fo the street
If they were sleeping and camping out in Daley center or on the sidewalk in front of city hall, or on the street where the Mayor lives, you can be sure that they would be relocated. Now they even wave at you when you walk by.
