Description

Friday, Feb 5, 2016. A number of cars, including mine, were ticketed early in the day after the snowstorm began on Heritage Drive. I legally parked there the evening before, when it wasn’t snowing. I am from out of state, and was aware of snow coming in, and therefore checked for snow emergency signs on Heritage Drive. While you have snow emergency signs on one side of the street, which I purposely went over and read, there are absolutely no signs on the opposite side of the street for the entire length of Heritage Drive. Also, the signs that are posted make no reference to a parking ban for both sides of the street. As I said, being from out of state, I don't know what your parking policies are. In most communities it is opposite side parking from the posted signs. I think if you are going to tag cars, you need to at least have a few signs on both sides of the street.

My second issue is that I moved my car to the Gallows playground lot after inquiring where to park. As of 6:30 p.m. that lot had not been touched by a single plow from the city. If you expect people to park there, then an effort should be made to at least make it accessible. To further complicate the problem, the temps for Friday night were below freezing making a frozen nightmare for cars to drive over, and the possibility of causing damage to the undercarriage of the automobiles. There wasn’t even an access opening to the lot. While being out in the afternoon I saw a number of your squad cars ticketing cars. At the same time, you should be ensuring that alternate safe parking is available when you have a snow ban in put into effect.

If you check my driving record, you will see a perfectly clean driving record with no violations, including parking violations, which demonstrates my conscientious effort to adhere to parking rules or rules of the road. As I have already mentioned, I am from out of state visiting. Therefore, I am not aware of non-posted parking bans.

I do not believe I should be paying $50.00 for a fine for parking legally and responsibly on the side that had no parking ban signs. Furthermore the alternative parking lot down the street was not attended to.
