Thank you for reporting the odor issue. There are currently two sources of odors, Johnson County Wastewater and the Johnson County Landfill. Every few years, Johnson County Wastewater is required to cleanout accumulated solids in three lagoon cells at the Mill Creek Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant located at 20001 W 47th Street. The potential for odors does exist with this process. When investigating recent odor complaints, it has been determined that some of the complaints can be attributed to the Mill Creek Regional Wastewater Treatment Plan. The clean-out of the cells began in September and is scheduled to be completed by the end of December. Since mid-November KDHE has been working with Deffenbaugh about odor complaints. They have discovered a leak and are in the process of sealing the leak and flaring the escaping gas. They hope to have approval for the flaring bythe end of this week from KDHE. Hopefully, the completion of the Wastewater cleanout and additional flares will eliminate the additional odors. We will continue to work with Deffenbaugh on these issues. Thank you.
