Hi Robin,
last time (about a month ago) when our street was being cleaned, there were whole bunch of vehicles parked along side of the road so the sweeper couldn't do his job properly. None of those vehicles were acknowledged by the bylaw, which resulted in a very poor sweeping job. We got left with about half of an inch of gravel and dirt in front of our driveway which we ended up shoveling ourselves and putting it into a garbage can....Not exactly what I have in mind when you say "street cleaning". Just want to make sure that I am getting what I pay for, which, unfortunately, I cannot say after the last experience.
Also, who would I contact about a "fence code" issue? Is there such thing in GP that each neighborhood has a fence code that one would have to meet? What type of fence, height etc....
We do not have a bylaw that restricts street parking on street sweeping days. We are trying to reduce parking concerns by having a more predictable service this year. Sweepers now go into neighbourhoods the day before garbage day, taking approximately 4 rotations to complete all areas.
If you notice vehicles are parked on the street for longer than 72 consecutive hours, please call Enforcement Services directly and they will look into any parking violations. Their number is 780-830-5790.
Concerns regarding fences could be directed to Development Services. We do require property owners to get a permit prior to building a fence over a certain height. Read more: http://www.cityofgp.com/index.aspx?page=2599
Some neighbourhoods have restrictive covenants on fences but they are often established by the developers, not the City.
