Description
Hi,
The signal timing from 1st Ave N through Central Ave and 1st Ave S on 22nd Street is terrible. These blocks are very short and often the light timing is opposite--e.g. when you hit a red light at 1st Ave N, the light at Central Ave will still be green, then turn red once the light at 1st Ave N turns green. The same will happen from Central to 1st Ave S. This causes an unnecessary stop and go/wait time at these intersections. I'd greatly appreciate if someone would look in to adjusting the timing! Thank you.

Update from Traffic Operations: "The City is aware of this situation and description reasonably accurate. 22nd St/1st Ave. N and 22nd St/Central are fairly well coordinated; they both start the N/S green at about the same time. However 22nd St/1st Ave. N remains in N/S green about 4 seconds longer than 22nd St/Central because of slightly different timing. 22nd St/1st Ave. S is out of coordination with the other two intersections. This due to the fact that 1st Ave. S is considered the major road at this intersection as is 1st Ave. N at 22nd St/1st Ave. N. This means these movements get primary consideration for coordination purposes (when the City looked at which corridors it wanted to coordinate, 1st Ave. N and 1st Ave. S were a couple that were highly recommended).
The City has chosen to coordinate 22nd St/1st Ave. S and 22nd St/1st Ave. N with the signalized intersections west and east of them. Unfortunately this prevents good coordination for 22nd St/1st Ave. S with 22nd St/1st Ave. N and 22nd St/Central. We could possibly coordinate 22nd St/Central and 22nd St/1st Ave. S, but then the coordination with 22nd St/1st Ave. N would be off. We have similar problems to a lesser extent at 28th Street (1AN, Central, 1AS), 31th Street (1AN, Central, 1AS) and 37th Street (1AN, Central, 1AS).
Better options are to use 16th Street (1AN, Central, 1AS) or 20th Street (1AN,Central, 1AS), both are reasonably well coordinated northbound and southbound. 28th Street is reasonably well coordinated southbound and 31st Street is reasonably well coordinated northbound. I hope this explains things a little better and will help you in your travels."
