Description
At least 8-10 times per day, U.S. Postal delivery vehicles, including a large box truck, use Yellow Poplar Ave., as a cut thru to Franklin St. A trail of postal vehicles leaves the post office in the morning and then return to the post office in the afternoon. This is a neighborhood with a 25 mph speed limit. These vehicles are exceeding the speed limit and should be using East Holding Ave., a main thoroughfare, to access Franklin St. when leaving and returning from their routes.

It has been over a month since my initial report about excessive postal vehicles using a neighborhood street as a short cut. However, I must update the actual number of postal vehicles that use the street. Today, I sat and actually counted the vehicles. I was incorrect when I reported postal vehicles were using the street 8-10 times per day. Actually, between 9:55 a.m. and 11:24 a.m. today, 13 postal mail carrier delivery vehicles and 1 U.S. Postal box truck drove down Yellow Poplar Ave., a residential street. That is 14 vehicles in less than an hour and a half. Other than postal vehicles, there is little traffic on our street. Postal vehicles are a major traffic problem on Yellow Poplar Ave.
This is unacceptable. What can be done to stop it?

Yes. That's still the peak time in the morning. They return down the same road in the afternoon. But not in such a steady train. Also, there is a stake truck (I believe that's what they call it), that travels down Yellow Poplar at least twice per day. It has to be over the legal number of axles to travel a neighborhood street as a main route each day. I don't know why they just don't turn right out of the parking lot and make a right onto Holding Ave. That would be more appropriate, safer, and much less noisy for the folks in Heath Ridge Village.
Thank you for your interest.

Okay, we did our stakeout today and you can see the results at http://wfncnews.com/1692/clandestine-postal-stakeout-completed-results
We will bring this to the attention of the Post Office but we are going to close this for now since it is a public road.
