This is the fifth time I am reporting this traffic light cycling on its own at night. Each time someone replies back saying that the problem is fixed. Can someone actually fix the problem this time?

I will check. It is possible this is the way the signal is designed to operate but will get information from the traffic engineering section.

Our signal technician investigated this location and found no detection problems. He monitored it for multiple cycles and found everything to be working as designed.

This issue seems to be happening at night. Has someone visited the site at night? Last night, the light was cycling with no one on the loops.

The loop detector system should work the same all the time. The technician has checked it more than once and it seems to be operating as designed, but we will have someone go out tonight to see what might be happening.

Just acknowledging for follow up.

The tech was out there last night and found everything to be working as it should. However, one thing that was noticed and been confirmed for here and at least one other location was that somebody seems to be gluing and jamming sticks into the pedestrian pushbuttons causing the controllers to think that there are people waiting to cross the street. Once the signal controller gets this call, it will max out for the side street times making the main street stop. Our signal shop is ordering some newly designed pedestrian pushbuttons that don’t have these movable parts and should prevent this problem from reoccurring. I am guessing that the glue would gum up the button for a while but eventually wear down, which is why we kept getting the calls but couldn’t find the issue upon our field investigations. Once these new buttons arrive, we will be replacing the old ones.
