Description

I have lived on Bayo Street for 17-years and I have been asking for 15-years to place Bayo Street on the City of Oakland‘s 5-year paving plan list. Bayo Street is beyond filling potholes because there are too many potholes on Bayo Street to fill. Bayo Street is splitting down the central point along with too many potholes to count. I have posted photos on SeeClickFix website every time I discover a new pothole and to no avail, I have NOT been contacted by anyone. I receive the canned response “ACKNOWLEGED by City of Oakland Public Works” every time I post something.

The potholes have become larger due to a lack of preventive maintenance. I know the state of California is in dire need of rain but there is a part of me that is glad it isn’t raining because more rain means more deterioration of Bayo Street, the gravel is so broken any amount of rain will cause Bayo Street to crack/crumble even more. The potholes are growing larger and larger and the neighbors drive down Bayo Street dodging the potholes. With the constant stream of traffic Bayo Street is beginning to separate from the pavement, leading to the creation of deep long potholes. It has become quite noisy on Bayo Street when cars are not aware of the potholes.

Initially, when I reported the potholes on Bayo Street, I was told Bayo Street was on the 5-year paving plan list and recently after receiving the 5-year paving plan list Bayo Street is no longer on the list. It has been 15-years and counting since my first request for someone to come out and resurface Bayo Street.

Recently there was some road work done on 39th Avenue above Bayo Street and as a result of the road work done there is now a sinkhole in the center of the street in front of the driveway of the residence living at 3945 – 39th Avenue. On a starry night, someone not knowing the sinkhole is there can easily lose control of their car and cause a serious accident. It is as if the construction crew that started the construction work in front of 3945 – 39th Avenue did not realize as a result of putting underground pipes would cause the center of the road to start to sink. The sink hole is getting larger and deeper.

For the past 15-years I have been waiting for Bayo Street to be resurfaced and I question why as a tax payer my street looks terrible.

The block between Selkirk Street and Reinhardt Drive is also riddled with potholes; needless to say my drive to work is like driving an obstacle course trying to dodge potholes.

I am fed up with the excuses why it is taking the City of Oakland 15-years to resurface the streets in my neighborhood while I notice streets not in as worst conditions as my street are getting preferential treatment. What will it take for the City of Oakland or Public Works to visit the three short blocks of Bayo Street to see firsthand how Bayo Street has deteriorated? I am at my braking point at trying to draw attention to a street beyond a simple repair but a major resurfacing.

On another note…when will the City of Oakland or Public Works remove the large metal plates on Bayo Street between 39th Avenue and Patterson Street? The large metal plates have been there it seems like years. Bayo Street is a disgrace! I am ashamed, embarrassed, mortified and humiliated to drive on the street I reside on.

PLEASE FIX BAYO STREET!
