Thank you for contacting the City of Huntsville with your concern at the intersection of Gallatin Street and Bob Wallace Avenue. At this intersection currently, the vehicle and bicycle detection work as one system and are programmed to give the same amount of time for a single bicycle or car. When a car/bicycle is no longer detected at the approach and the minimum green time is fulfilled, the signal will start to service the other approaches. While the light may change from green to yellow while a vehicle is in the intersection, our staff calculates the yellow and all red clearance times to allow vehicles to clear the intersection before the intersecting streets are given a green light. If you feel additional time is needed for you to cross, please utilize the pedestrian crossing pushbutton.

A vehicle and a family of bicyclists are two different things. A kid on a bike cannot get across the road in the same time a car can and we’re not supposed to be biking on the sidewalk. This intersection connects residential neighborhoods and should allow for cyclists time to get through the intersection.
