Called CPD in real-time. Since they asked for my contact info, as they do about 1/2 the time calls like this are made, I specifically asked for a follow-up call from a City bike safety specialist, given this specific illegal parking and safety issue occurs a couple times a week - we’ll see if that happens.
Thank you for reporting your concern to City of Cambridge via SeeClickFix. We have reviewed the information you provided our staff and will be investigating this issue further.
Where do u expect everyone to go. Its eaiser for a bike to get around, I know you think your the king of the road, but its eaiser for bikes to go around then trucks. Please have some consideration for others that have to make deliveries.!
In the future, if you see this type of activity, we encourage you to call the Cambridge Police non-emergency number at 617-349-3300 and an available, nearby officer will be dispatched to the location. Tell us how we're doing by completing a short survey at www.surveymonkey.com/r/CambServiceRequests
Pat, sometimes you reveal your true self. The truck could easily park up against the curb, but hasn't bothered, because there are no consequences, the city NEVER tickets for this. But hey, go on crying about "where're they going to park", when it's 4 feet away!
This photo is a different angle of one reported earlier, at the curb cut of a local business that is trying to load some very large and heavy bins with a forklift onto a large truck. A: there is no curb, B: the operator of the forklift needs to load safely and properly, C: this happens infrequently but is part of their manufacturing process, D: there is a large residential development under construction next to them at this corner of Broadway and Elm Street which is causing a temporary space issue.
I support local businesses and with this understanding I'm willing to be delayed or slightly inconvenienced on occasion when necessary, as I walk by here frequently. This is a commercial building that has been in use well before the bike lanes arrived, if city planners did not accommodate the needs of a local business (who are paying the much higher property tax for a commercial property) then you need to complain to the CITY PLANNERS. Also, if you all desire more housing, there will be construction and congestion, you can't have it both ways, share the road indeed!
@smc- don't disagree with A-D, but the fact that a business was someplace prior to bike lanes being installed is irrelevant. If one went with the mindset you suggest the city would only get more congested and less safe in EVERY aspect (crosswalks, fire hydrants, etc.)- change happens, smc, and both businesses and residents alike need to keep up.
Tell me about it! If you've been here long enough you've seen a steady decline in safety, rise in population and the lowering of quality of life here. So, yes, the city IS responsible to provide an alternate place for existing businesses to operate, they are paying for the hardship of trying to do business here in a very negative time. Change has happened, many of us do not see it all as a positive and those joining us here need to cooperate and understand that we are already one of the two "densest" populated areas and the Port is the densest neighborhood in all of this, so SHARE the road.
Smc Thankyou, I dont think bill or chris understand how much more awful its going to be when Cambridge starts putting up 15 story buildings.
Lots of construction.
They both feel intitled to not care about Sharing the Road!
