Description

Encampment Individuals consistently trespassing into building, smoking, toileting, and substance using in the area. Individuals even chasing residents into building to piggy back off the magnetic door before it locks.
This is a recurrent issue since December, 2023.
The doors of the building have a few second delay for magnate activation and locking. These individuals are aware of this. So they have started running towards the doors to get into the buildings during this delay. The other way they will get in is by coming in with package and food delivery drivers. During their stay, they will sleep in different floors of the stairwell and use the space for smoking -cigarettes and other substances, Substance using leaving paraphernalia behind, and toilet in the area as evidenced by the presence of human urine and feces that remains after they are escorted by police or leave in the morning.
The police have been called every time and sent a couple of cops to escort the man back outside this area. Unfortunately, this situation has not stopped and they keep coming back and leaving more common areas in a state of squalor . These areas are the ends of the hallways that lead directly into the apartments. They are also the emergency exit routes in the building that they are physically blocking, and common areas accessed by all residents including children and pets. The apartments close to the doors directly experience the smell of their presence and stay.

The police said that this "door piggybacking" has become a common practice in the area by some of the local encampment population. Residents feel very unsafe and this is not the only apartment building in the area going through this. Some of these individuals have been found under the influence, disruptive, and potentially in a state of mental decompensation where behavior becomes unpredictable. For context, the man that frequents our building is about 6ft tall, wears a huge black/blue coat, and runs like an Olympian sprinter to catch these open doors. These buildings are occupied mostly by young professionals and young families with several child care centers in the area. We are charged more than the average cost of rent in the area in exchange for safety, cleanliness, and a peaceful place to call home. We are currently getting none of those things. Please Help
