Description
Is there any way a ramp from the end of the eastbound bike lane to the sidewalk could be added on NW Richmond Beach Rd? As it stands, people not comfortable riding with traffic have to get off their bike and lift it up onto the sidewalk here.
The nearest curb cut is at the intersection with 1st Ave NW, but the end of the bike lane is not visible from there so people don't know in advance that they're about to be thrown into traffic. I realize there's a "bike lane ends" sign back at 3rd Ave NW, but it's very easy to miss (or ignore, given that the bike lane continues as far as one can see and there have been other vestigial "bike lane ends" signs in the city). If a ramp is out of the question, pavement markings would at least be more conspicuous than the sign.

Example of pavement markings to direct people biking to use the sidewalk: https://maps.app.goo.gl/Aqza18TcvrXdXGEw5 - something similar could be added at 1st Ave NW

Response from the Traffic Department:
Thanks for writing in with your suggestion. Unfortunately the City does not have any programmatic funding for bike facility improvements, so it is not possible to implement a bike ramp as suggested at this time. Additionally, while bicyclists can legally use the sidewalks, the sidewalk at this location isn’t wide enough to be considered a “Shared Use Path” (like the examples provided). The true bike facility ends at 3rd Ave NW, so providing a bike ramp further east might lead to confusion, or users thinking that the City deemed the sidewalk an appropriate/standard bike facility, which it is not. You can see the City’s ultimate goal for bike facility connectivity online at: https://www.shorelinewa.gov/home/showpublisheddocument/58651/638357293496670000.
