Address is also 423 Madison Avenue, though the water seems to be seeping from the Lark Street (west side) of structure.
I have actually been concerned about the possibility of this for some time. The project is currently on hold due to some liens and bank issues, but until the work stalled, the contractors were pumping a large amount of water out of the basement multiple times a week with a considerable volume of water flowing from the pump east down Madison Avenue. When asked where so much water kept coming from, they made excuses such as rainfall (even when there was no rain since the previous pumping). Before the basement was completed and covered by the rest of the structure, one could actually see a new amount of water refill the excavation and basement literally overnight at times (with no rainfall).
There may be some unknown water source under or under adjacent properties which is creating the need for the repeated pumping. There was an brick cistern dating back to the late 18th or very early 19th century discovered during the initial excavations and that hints that there may have been some sort of source (such as a spring) below grade as the cistern was too far below grade to have collected rainwater.
Certainly, something has been causing water to appear and, with the project in limbo, there have been no contractors on site for at least a month to see to the pumping and I'm concerned that will affect the long-term stability of the building (IF it is ever finished).
