Description
Hi! My name is Jay and I work for Firethorn Golf Club. The issue is at 84th & Firethorn Ln. Vehicles turning right onto 84th street do not look right to see if bicyclist, runners or walkers are coming down the sidewalk to cross Firethorn Ln. The most often reason why drivers are not looking to see if anyone is coming down the sidewalk is because the vehicle turning left onto 84th St is in the crosswalk hash marks. Also, there is the landscaping berm and the traffic light control box on the right side that hinders visibility. We at Firethorn have heard of many many many close calls of pedestrians almost getting hit because of this. We are wondering if it’s possible to get any new signage of paint lines to hold vehicles back turning right onto 84th?
Thank you!
Jay

Dear Jay,
Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention regarding 84th & Firethorn, especially regarding the safety of pedestrians and cyclists in the area.
We understand the potential risks posed by vehicles turning right onto 84th Street and not adequately checking for pedestrians, cyclists, or runners on the sidewalk. We share your commitment to ensuring the safety of all road users.
Regarding your suggestion for new signage or paint lines to hold vehicles back when turning right onto 84th Street, we will certainly consider this as part of our ongoing efforts to enhance safety at intersections. We will certainly check the legibility of the cross walk markings to improve visibility and promote safer driving practices.
In the meantime, it's important for all drivers to adhere to existing traffic laws and refrain from pulling into the crosswalk while waiting to turn right. If you observe drivers violating this rule, you may consider contacting the Lincoln Police Department for enforcement action. They can be found at https://www.lincoln.ne.gov/City/Departments/Police/Departments/Traffic-Unit.
Thank you for your proactive approach to addressing safety concerns in your community. We appreciate your partnership in promoting safe transportation practices for everyone.
