Wouldn’t it be a whole lot cheaper for the city to simply put up a couple of cameras, catch and fine the people doing this? Only a few would quickly capture tens of thousands in fines.
This is unacceptable for living conditions Oakland, do better.
Where is our councilperson in all this filth? The illegal dumping gets worse every year.

The city put up a camera for exactly this purpose near my residence last year and I don't believe it did a thing to stem the tide of dumping I have witness. But maybe I'm wrong and they actually cited someone, and the problem is there are just dozens of other people doing the same thing who aren't getting caught.
Second, Nikki Bas as a councilperson (and council president, for that matter) can't really do anything to act in the near term. The council makes legislation and votes on a budget. As far as influencing the city administration (who are the ones who are *actually* responsible for acting on this here) there is only so much our council reps can do with their soft power, in terms of just trying to connect with city staff to get them to act.
