Firstly, anytime there is a concern of speeding on a city street, residents may register their concerns with the Salem Police Traffic Control Unit at 503-588-6293. Leave a description of the concern, such as location, time of day when it happens most frequently, etc. If you wish to speak to an officer, you must leave your name and phone number for a return call.
The other action that a resident can take is to request to have the Radar Reader Board posted on the street. This digital board indicates posted speed, as well as measuring speed of passing vehicles and reminds them to slow down as appropriate. To schedule the device in your area, contact the Salem Police Volunteer Services at 503-588-6499, ext. 1.
Lastly, the workers at DHS and students at George Fox come into the neighborhood and while they are there are really neighbors. Consider speaking with the administrators at George Fox University and the Department of Human Services Child Support Division located at the old State Farm building; share and describe your concerns and communicate to them how from your perspective their employees, clients, students, etc. are negatively impacting the livability of your neighborhood. If residents have not yet done this, these entities may be unaware of the problem.
I hope the information has been helpful.
