  I’m a neighbor on Fremont and over a year ago I wrote to the city about these exact concerns. With the future park improvements also in mind at the Richmond Highlands Rec Center, they need to make that stretch safer to navigate. I suggested additional crosswalks (with flashing lights?) perhaps speed bumps? They responded basically saying Fremont was not dangerous ENOUGH (Linden Ave has a record of fatalities) and they could not install speed bumps because emergency vehicles use Fremont as an alternative to Aurora. They said maybe a speed study could be done, but over a year later I haven’t seen evidence of this. Fremont has grown increasingly dangerous in the 11 years I’ve lived here and I have daily anxiety about my young daughter near the street. If enough neighbors voice their concerns maybe we’ll get that cross walk before someone gets seriously hurt.

  I live on Fremont and I also submitted a complaint to the City of Shoreline last year about this exact same location and my concern over the pedestrian traffic and speeding vehicles. It seems that not a day goes by that someone doesn’t speed on this stretch of Fremont. I requested the speed limit be reduced to 25 mph between 175th south to 165th. Playgrounds, Teen Center/Rec Center, and Shorewood HS all mean high pedestrian traffic, but was told Fremont is not a part of any studies being considered for reduced speed. A crosswalk would be an improvement, but it would have to be accompanied by flashing lights as I wouldn’t trust people to pay attention enough to it. A speed cart can be rented free from the City in order to track speeds over a period of time. I haven’t done that yet. During the school year the speeding can be even worse as high school kid drivers arrive and leave school.
