The new house that was built next to me had loads, loads, loads, and loads of dirt put on the property to build the house. At that time, I knew there was going to be a problem and I called the Landings office. They sent some woman out here with NO experience obviously and didn’t acknowledge a problem. Well, it took over two years to build the house and every time it rained, it flooded the side of my yard. I continued to call and call to no avail. I finally talked to Bill Campbell and he said he would check it out and never did. I continued to call. Now, it is at an emergency situation. EVERY time it rains, it floods on that side of the house and you can see how that property slopes down to have the water come in my yard. And some of that is land between our houses is common property.

Talking about 3-1/2 years ago, there was a horrible flooding problem in the back of the house in the common area that still exists. I mentioned to the receptionist that after seeing a segment on the news about standing water and the problem with mosquito breeding, she sent Bill Campbell out and said he would dig a hole, add rock, and cover with dirt. What a joke! He left and those workmen dug a small hole, filled it with rock, and then dirt. WHAT should have happened was that Mr. Campbell should have been here to oversee that they should have dug a hole the length of the entire flooded area, and then done the rocks and dirt. Now, there continues to be a lake in the back. Again on the news the other night, there was a segment about problems with standing water and mosquitoes, and to get rid of the water. That water stays out there for weeks after a rain. Are you going to get rid of it?

My job is not in public works/construction, but I do have a brain to see what has happened in both of these areas. First the landscape and extra dirt added to that lot has caused flooding in my yard that has never been there, and the back flooding was never addressed correctly.

This is not my problem. I am installing gutters on this house, and frankly, when I drive around The Landings, I do not see many houses with gutters. Go figure. I’m very upset about these problems that have occurred over 3 years, and the fact that there has not been any resolution to these issues. WE SHOULD BE WORKING TOGETHER to solve these problems. This is just not a mosquito problem, the water can damage the foundation of this house. If this continues to be ignored, I will go to the Board, and or seek legal advice.

Thank you for sending those men out as soon as possible, but all that did was have them see a problem I have contacted you about for years. They were surprised at the level of the water that is here and walked to the back to see what could be done. One of the men called their supervisor, but, of course, he was in a meeting. I hope this supervisor gets out here today to figure out WHAT can be done.

Public Works does not approve or inspect new construction residential property drainage plans, this is done by Chatham County. The drain that was installed several years ago in the rear of your property apparently has worked until the new construction was completed. Adjoining properties' runoff should not be directed to neighboring properties. You should contact Community Development and or Chatham County.

You were the one who had men come to our house and fig a small hole, fill it with rocks, then dirt thinking that that would solve the problem and it hasn’t. Why don’t you come out and see for yourself all the flooding that has occurred? This was in the common area. The issue on the side of the house is another problem that started when all the truckloads of dirt was brought to the neighboring lot and built up. It does not take a rocket scientist to see what has happened to my yard as a result of the change in topography, and now it’s raining again. You ought to hear the frogs in the back yard…add another lagoon to the number listed in the phone book!
