What I do not understand is how they can so blatantly be allowed to break the law. Trespassing, possession of stolen property( shopping carts) to start, violating muni codes 9.08.160 Sitting or lying on a street or sidewalk, 9.08.170 obstructing pedestrians and probably many more. Cite them and give them community service.
Those who live near this area could phone police department to report this illicit behavior. That would make more sense than discussing on a Public Works web site. I am a Dimond District busy body otherwise I would call the police.
Carolyn these SCF issue are sent to a lot of people in the city besides the public works call center. This is why we have the options to report thing that are not only related to public works. The OPD is overwhelmed with major crimes let alone the homeless who whine about rights being violated while breaking the law. I also have my entire SCF record I can go back to for reference. SCF evolves as a tool as more people make use of it and demand better services from the city.
I have contacted the real estate company whose number appears on the building (510-465-8000) as well as the Problem Solving Officer for our district, who I believe is Officer Walker (Nwalker@oaklandnet.com). No response from either entities, but I encourage neighbors to make contact on an ongoing basis until there is a resolution. If anyone has other ideas on how to resolve this increasingly problematic and potentially hazardous issue, please post your thoughts.
Hannah -- A number of us neighbors are working with the City Attorney's office to go after the building owner. Could you reach out to the attorney who is handling this case?
