This is about the 15th time in the last year someone has written about speeding and the need for traffic control devices on South Main between Madison and New Scotland. S. Main is full houses with young children, families walking dogs/ riding bikes, and elementary school children walking to/ from school (New Scotland Elementary School/ Maimonides Hebrew Day School). However, cars use this road as a bypass for S. Manning often speed without regard for the neighborhood. This is very prevalent once S. Main is split with the median because drivers naturally speed up once the road opens up and the possibility of a head on with oncoming traffic is eliminated. Speed humps and 1 or 2 strategically placed stop signs (S. Main & Fairview, and as this person is suggesting, Peyster. and/ or Banker) would help with the speeding issue. This would improve the lives and safety of the children, pets, and families who live on and use S. Main, and place almost no burden on drivers as their average speed is dictated by traffic light patterns and not their top speed on an open stretch of road.

I echo the call for all-way stop signs on S. Main. The issue with the lights is that people speed up to "catch the green" which is a particular issue on Banker as cars heading north see a green light at S. Main and Ryckman. In fact, there was just an accident at that intersection last night.

Stop signs are routinely ignored by drivers.
