This was taken January 09. I e-mailed the City's Graffiti unit, within a week of it appearing. No response. I e-mailed again, no response. I called the Ward 7 councilman's office numerous times with no response until I finally spoke with him at a community event about the numerous issues in the neighborhood. In a year's time, one of two broken street lights have been fixed. But the graffiti is still there as of this writing as are many of the other issues.
These two images were taken at the intersection of Viola and Plainfield. However, you can continue to drive down Viola for more boarded up and neglected property.
I received a reminder about this site today, so i thought I'd just post that nothing's changed. The graffiti is still there, and the other house's yard is still covered in garbage.
The graffiti task force is a seasonal program, once the temp. outside is in accordance (50 degrees + for multiple days) then we can abate the graffiti. It is, however, on the list to be abated. Should you have any questions, feel free to contact me directly @ 421-2489 - ask for Elise or Graffiti Task Force.
The Graffiti task Force is a city nicety, but it should not take responsibility away from property owners. Shouldn't property owners be responsible for removing graffiti? In any case, I called code enforcement and reported the other property, the one with the garbage strewn all over the yard. The garbage is still there, but the building inspector did go out and cited the owner. A follow-up inspection is scheduled in April. We'll see what happens.
Please let us know status of these issues. Going forward, kindly contact the Office of Neighborhood Services with any updates or issues and we will make certain that they are reported right away. Our number is 421-2489 - anyone can help you!
Uhm, I have been in touch with the office of neighborhood services, who deferred me to my councilman... Who I've spoken with several times... I am telling you here publicly, the Graffiti is still there. Just this week some of the garbage was removed. But it still looks like hell.
Thank you for your concern. I just received confirmation from the Graffiti Task Force that this location was addressed on Wednesday, April 7th. I have submitted a request to the Department of Public Works division of Environmental Control for an inspection of the backyard.

The graffiti is indeed gone. Thank you.
However, the foreclosed house with the garbage is still in rough shape. Someone did remove some of the garbage, but did not finish the job.
Yes, it was finally cleaned up after almost 6 months.
The building seems to be under renovations. I can only hope that good folks move in.
There are still huge problems on this street though. Garbage and broken glass litters the street more often than not. There is lots of late night noise including yelling, swearing, and loud music. Two nights ago there was a fight, which is also a frequent occurrence, last night several young men were yelling at each other at the top if their lungs at 1AM. This is all a regular state of affairs on the street.
A couple of Tuesday's ago, there was a "bottle fight" where a few "neighbors" were throwing bottles at each other. This event left broken glass all over the street. Calling the police on these matters rarely produces their presence or a lasting solution to this ongoing issue.
Thank you for responding to my email. Happy to hear that these particular issues have been addressed.
If you would kindly call our office to provide us with further details about the noise and trash, we will make certain that the proper individuals and departments are informed.
We can be reached at 401.421.PROV (7768).
Thank you again for taking the time to write.
Sincerely,

Good morning,
Thank you for your response.
These issues have been reported to the appropriate departments.
We are now able to abate graffiti since the weather has been above 50 degrees for several days.
If you happen to have the addresses of the other properties that need to be inspected, we would appreciate knowing.
Thank you again.
Regards,
Robin
