Description

Concrete apron on the right side of north bound Broadway south of 38th St is badly broken, causing a danger to bicyclists trying to stay to the right of this shared-lane street. Moreover, the segment of northbound Broadway between W MacArthur and 38th Street is very hazardous to bicyclists, as the right hand lane is too wide and encourages drivers to "squeeze" past instead of simply changing lanes. There is also no clear "merge" zone between the bike lane areas and the shared lane areas. Please fix!

Thanks for the report. Due to the danger to cyclists, this issue is being submitted to Oakland as a "TOP 10" in the January list for immediate attention under an agreement with the Bike East Bay Hazard Elimination program.

The lack of a merging zone and the wide lane/sharrows remains a problem. Yesterday I was cut off by a police cruiser that tried to squeeze by me in the lane rather than changing lanes; it's scary.

Reported this hazard to OPW by Bike East Bay as a "Top 10" hazard on 9-23-15. Oakland just reported back that the issue is closed - presumably fixed. Thank you Oakland! Now, if only the merging zone issue can be addressed...
