Description

During the winter season when it gets dark very early, it becomes extremely dangerous for pedestrians to cross Summit Ave. Many vehicles traveling on Beech St and turning into Summit Ave drive past quickly, even as pedestrians are crossing Summit Ave, putting their very lives at risk. The maximum danger is from vehicles turning left, after yielding to oncoming vehicles going straight along Beech St - possibly due to getting blinded by oncoming cars prior to making the turn. Whatever the reason, it is extremely dangerous for pedestrians crossing Summit Ave. I and my friends have personally experienced close brushes a couple of times. Just this past Wednesday, my neighbor was hit by a car and had to be taken to the Emergency at Hackensack University Medical Hospital. Luckily, he escaped with a few bone fractures, but it illustrates the real danger faced by the pedestrians.

On behalf of all pedestrians living in this area, I would request that a "left turn on green arrow only" signal be installed by the City of Hackensack.
