Description
I almost got hit while running across the intersection of Lowe and California this afternoon. It was still daylight and I had pressed the crossing button as well as followed the traffic signal (waited until it told me to cross) but the guy who was turning left from Lowe going north onto California accelerated excessively as soon as the light turned green (and my signal changed to the white walk signal) and nearly hit me. Something needs to be done to better educate drivers how to yield to pedestrians and drive more safely. The crosswalk at that intersection should also be more robust and possibly have its own dedicated walk interval that does not share time with a traffic signal being green, like the improved crossings at the five points intersection. If drivers cannot learn how to properly drive, perhaps they need to just sit at a red light while they wait for pedestrians to cross rather than be given a choice of whether or not to do the right thing.
