I am of the opinion that the yellow pedestrian crossing sign also blocks the view of pedestrians who are crossing behind the sign, that an additional stop sign is needed such as the one on the ground, that a bold white strip is needed in the street along with the word STOP painted large and bold just prior to the white stripe. Given that vehicles rarely come to a stop at this crosswalk it is reasonable to assume that something is wrong with the current design.

I have read both of the concerns regarding Witherspoon Street. The police department does not design the roadway nor work with the contractors who conducted the work. Please contact the Engineering Department if you would like to address these concerns specifically about the Witherspoon Street project.

As to the issue of the recycling bins, we will inform the business responsible that they cannot be located in the position they have been placed.

As for the crosswalk signage and designations, this is a construction project and the interim measures taken are not the final configuration. The contractor will be returning to work here on Monday, January 9 and will continue to have traffic control personnel at this location. Nonetheless, the current signage and warnings are in accordance with MUTCD. The Police Department has been monitoring this crossing and providing enforcement when necessary.
