Description

Over the weekends leading up to Halloween and on Halloween itself, the traffic signal at the intersection of North and Federal streets is changed to a flashing orange (for drivers on North) and flashing red (for the drivers exiting Federal). While this portion of Federal Street has relatively little traffic exiting it, pedestrians still need to cross this intersection safely and cannot do so when the lights are disabled. I’ve had several close calls over the last month trying to cross this street in broad daylight. Tragically, this safety issue culminated in a pedestrian being struck by a car here in a hit and run accident on Halloween night. I am requesting that these lights not be disabled OR that a police officer be posted here when they are to manage the flow of traffic and ensure pedestrian safety.
