Description

On South sidewalk of Carlton Way, between C&R Automotive Center and apartment building at 5440 Carlton Way, people have been dumping old furniture and other waste. At first it was mostly mattresses and larger household items, and after a while they would get hauled off--by whom, I do not know. More recently other types of trash have accumulated, such as mattress pad filling, broken mirror pieces and general filth. While the larger items still get removed after a while, the smaller bits and broken things are left behind. This has created a general air of disrespect and unconcern for the area and has promoted more and more contributions, as well as more loitering and bedding down of homeless people and miscreants. (The homeless people are the least of my concern with this particular situation.)
I believe that this dumping is partially due to the fact that this particular stretch of sidewalk abuts a section of empty lot so there is no business, apartment manager, or anybody around to monitor the space or clean it up.

Although it's not an area of town holding the highest standard of living, I believe no one, no matter where they live or how little they can pay for rent, should have to live in a city with streets lined with trash.
