As someone who lives in the neighborhood and drives there, I find a 4 way stop totally unnecessary. There are already too many unnecessary 4way stops. If one drives carefully, stopping fully, there is no problem. Just proceed slowly to be able to see a car coming.

As someone who lives at the corner of Miner and Felch, I observe folks turning right onto Felch off Gott and regularly accelerate beyond 25 mph by the time they cross Miner
And Felch intersection . At commuting time it’s a regular occurrence. It makes for interesting viewing from my kitchen window especially when someone on Miner decides to run the stop sign at said intersection,
Which happens more than it should. So Felch streets speeds need to be monitored and offenders need to held accountable IMO.

100%. People tailgate me on Felch if I drive the speed limit. But a 4-way stop at Fountain would help a lot too.

There are traffic standards followed by the city for stop signs. Not every intersection needs a 4 way stop. There will always be somebody who wants a 4way stop at every intersection. Every day I'm either a pedestrian or driver at that intersection and very rarely have had a problem.

Though Ann Arbor is in many ways a progressive city, I observe many other cities doing much more to calm traffic in neighborhoods. Even cities such as Jackson and Toledo have, for example, some attractive obstruction in the center of an intersection like this one to require people to slow when going through, or even to force only right turns. I would welcome such choke points in Water Hill, because we get so many impatient commuter drivers cutting through.

Tim, I appreciate your point of view, but respectfully disagree. I've lived in the neighborhood for a long time. For me, I see that things have improved quite a bit with less speeding and safer driving than when I moved to this neighborhood.

Has the City reviewed the situation at the Fountain/Felch intersection? What was the outcome? Have any decisions been made?

However i can say without a doubt the city thinks a ”survival of the fittest approach” is what’s best for the people.
After I personally experienced a bicycle accident this last September I reached out to an old acquaintance, Ryan Stanton. He petitioned to city council on my behalf for added signals to the southbound on Division side of traffic lights.
Its original use as a one way street northbound for vehicle traffic, did not require lights on for southbound side. Now there’s a bike highway in both directions. The southbound bike traffic is to follow the pedestrian walk signals. The lack of a proper traffic signal was 100% what caused my accident.

After reviewing the city said they saw no reason to make any changes to that intersection at this time.

Meanwhile there is separate secondary traffic lights at Huron and first streets intersection, specifically intended for use of bicyclists. I can only assume this was put in place at a time when someone else was in charge of making the decisions.
