Description

Please consider adding signs requiring bicyclists to walk the bikes across the crosswalk at the intersection of Maitland and Harbor Bay Parkway. The signs should be on the posts at both sides. At this intersection bikes can travel on three routes: a bike trail, the emergency road lane, or the sidewalk. The ones on the sidewalks pose the most danger to pedestrians, autos, and dog walkers.

The bicyclists sometimes reach extremely high speeds because this intersection is in the middle of a nearly straight run of about a mile. Adding to the problem, many bicyclists coast through it at high speed, making little noise. In particular, the vegetation and fencing of the golf course on the E side creates a blind corner. I have had many close calls here.

The odd thing is that the nearest intersection has these signs requiring bikes to walk across the intersection, but there the street geometry is such that bicyclists are forced make right angle turns and slow or stop. So, the intersection in this area that needs the signs the most is the least protected.
